A Floor Sanders Knowledge..
As Parketproffi floor sanders, this week we were proud to attend the Pallmann feel the magic tour. The event was held in Hockley Heath, Birmingham. The project was to restore a community sports hall floor that was badly in need of restoration.
Every year industry leaders Pallmann, who supply Industry standard training, quality floor finishing products and machinery, put on events around the country to help local communities. Generally community’s which may not be in a financial position to have their flooring restored. The third and final event for this year was held at King George VI Memorial Hall, Hockley Heath, in Solihull Birmingham.
The idea is the Parketproffi contractors such as Ormrod Floor Sanding get to train in the use of and try out the latest new products and equipment in exchange for their time and energy. Everyone benefits in the process. We get to keep our product training up to date and at the end of the four days the community have a beautifully restored sports hall floor.
Let the Restoration Begin
Day one remove any old finish. To make it a little more fun, two guys started at one end of the hall using Pallmann Cobra belt sanding Machinery and another two at the opposite end using the revolutionary Pallmann Spider. Both machines performed beautifully eating through the old finish. I have to say it was a fair race and both came out with equally brilliant results. I’d say joint winners.
Day two was using edge sanding machines to get in all the tight areas, followed by a meeting of Parketproffi contractors. A fantastic day sharing ideas and stories, eating a fabulous BBQ prepared by one of Pallman’s area guys Stuart. Thank you Stuart and to top off the day a race on the Uk’s largest scalextric track. No Wes didn’t win, nor did I (Lorraine) but have to say, it was said that I (Lorraine) should have won a prize for consistently coming last 🙂 women drivers and all that.
The application of a Finish
The floor was taking shape and we couldn’t wait to apply the pallmann finish. Firstly a coat of primer was applied this would be followed by two coats of pallmann lacquer.
But first we had to mark out the badminton court. Thankfully Mike Hamer was on hand he instructed us how to position the lines and in no time at all the guys were working together and the line marking was taking shape.
Masking complete, now a steady hand was needed to paint in between the taped lines. Once dry it was time to apply the final coats of lacquer and two coats later, I think you will agree the floor looks amazing.
Just when we thought we were finished, one of the eagled eyed young lads from Cornwall noticed a tiny spot missing. This was a long stretch, but not too far for the gentle giant Michael from Pallmann in Germany, with a little help from the guys and a very long pole he managed to reach the missing spot and the floor was now finished to perfection.
Conclusion
It had been a busy few days, we had learnt a lot, laughed a lot and helped the local community at the same time.
I have to thank Pallmann for putting on these events that not only benefit the community, but also all the guys who are working to industry standards, trying to give the best possible service to our customers. Floor sanders work together.
The end result was a beautiful matt finish. Sadly we didn’t get to see the finished floor but was advised that it looked amazing the Client was delighted.
